Celebrating

Earth Day & the Gathering of Global Indigenous Peoples at the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) this April 2025

Tsi Karhakta | Edge of the Woods Initiative

Indigenous Restoration Campaign  &  Tree Giveaway

 Celebrating:

In Haudenosaunee culture, Tsi Karhakta, meaning "Edge of the Woods," is a revered space symbolizing transition, welcome, and connection. It also signifies the area outside a village where individuals announce their presence and identity before entering, highlighting the relationship between those within the village and those seeking entry.

As global Indigenous leaders convene on our ancestral lands for the UNPFII, we embrace our shared duty to the Earth through Indigenous restoration and stewardship, honoring the sacredness of Tsi Karhakta and upholding our cultural traditions.

Forest

Together, we are

  • Planting 535 Indigenous trees across New York State, from the Catskill Mountains to the Northern border, reforesting Indigenous trees on our homelands.

  • Giving away over 210 trees of 11 Native species to Kanienkehaka (Mohawk) families to reforest Indigenous tree varieties for future generations.

  • Reforesting 240 trees, 10 Native species in the Catskills, where we gather for our bi-annual Indigenous Food Sovereignty retreats.

  • Reforesting 90 trees and 7 Native varieties on reclaimed Haudenosaunee land.

  • Raising funds to support our Indigenous land stewardship and reclamation project and our bi-annual Indigenous Food Sovereignty Gathering.
